NO CHILD MUST BE LEFT BEHIND

It is a known fact that not all children operate on the same intelligence and brilliance level. Research has shown that the assimilation state of each child differs from one another, which also mean that we have children that could easily understand what the teachers teach them on time, while some others would still be trying to decipher what the teachers are trying to pass across.

Due to the difference in the level of assimilation of these children, we have come to discover that teachers always find it difficult to deal with slow learners, often, teachers try to advise such pupils and get results by negative enforcement like punishment. Such punishment could be; not allowing the child to eat at right time or disallowing the child from observing break time. It is not surprising that such punishment never yield any meaningful or positive result that will change the child, as it is not the right solution to the problem.

However, this has made us to deal on this issue of; No child must be left behind. This is one of the principles that Toydam School is built on, and that is still being operated on. The School has made it a point of duty in ensuring that no child must be left behind in all the activities the child would be involved in the School, as much as we know that all children do not have the same intelligence and brilliance ability, especially on academic work. This principle, which would be discussed shortly, has helped us in producing very good result as regards our children’s performances in all areas. We believe that every child could be trained and developed to the point of being an achiever, as we do not believe in failure, as it is a stepping stone to success.

Some of the factors we have implemented in ensuring this principle work are as follows; First, is the training of teachers; our teachers are given adequate training termly in ensuring that, the problem of the child is identified easily and on time. When this is done, one can now focus on that particular area the child is having problem, using an appropriate method in solving it. The teacher is trained in such a way that he/she thinks about the problem in being able to proffer a solution to it.

Secondly, most times, weak pupils cannot understand the lesson being taught, because he/she has not understood the previous lessons in previous classes. Therefore there is need to teach the child according to his/her understanding level, by correlating what was taught previously with what is being taught now together for the child to be able to understand.

Thirdly, encouragement from onset has been know to play an important role in the success of a child. Therefore our teachers are trained to find out strengths of weak pupils and applaud him/her with encouraging words. If a child is given confidence, he will feel his importance and worth. Once the confidence level of a weak pupil increases, he will definitely improve.

No child must be left behind. This is one of the principles that Toydam School is built on, and that is still being operated on. The School has made it a point of duty in ensuring that no child must be left behind in all the activities the child would be involved in in the School, as much as we know that all children do not have the same intelligence and brilliance ability, especially on academic work.

Also, weak pupils are given special attention after school hours. If a teacher tries to give just one extra hour both home and school to a weak pupil, emphasizing on the subjects taught each day in class, he/she will definitely improve. This we do on a regular basis as soon as we discover that there is a problem.

Another point to be considered is that, our teachers prepare seating arrangement properly to let the weak pupils sit with strong ones, as this method has always helpedmake the weak ones do better in class.

Another point to be considered again is that, friendship must be built with the weak pupil. When a pupil loves his teacher, he/she obeys every instruction given by the teacher. This we ensure that our teachers are friendly with their pupil, so that they can feel relaxed with them to ask any question they are not clear with.

These are the factors that have stood us out, in ensuring that no child must be left behind in our school that has been working for us.
